Mathematics and Implementation of Computer Graphics, Curves, Surfaces, NURBS and Parametric Hull Generation

An essential book for anyone working with NURBS. Explains the basics and leads the reader into more expert techniques. Both authors are from a computer science background and they provide good quality algorithms for implementing many NURBS operations.

David Rogers provides a very good introduction to NURBS with worked examples and basic surface algorithms in the appendix. Gerald Farin covers a wider range of curve and surface geometry applications. More mathematical than The NURBS book, but buy both and you get detailed explaination of surface operations from both sides. A comprehensive book which covers the basic mathematicals and software implementation of many basic geometric operations. Builds up by looking at distance and intersection of two dimension primatives (lines, curves, shapes etc), and then the three dimensional entities. A must reference for implementing the basic CAD operations. Although dated, this comprehensive reference reviewing the use of mathematical entities for representing the hull surface. It explains the basic of parametric hull generation and describes techniques which are now becoming important in regards to hull optimisation for hydrodynamic performance etc, FriendShip Systems. This book by Micheal Mortenson covers curves and surfaces similarly to the other books mention but leads the reader toward the Relational Geometry concept which is the framework behind the Multisurf modeller.

Yacht and Ship Design Books
The "original" Yacht Design book, reprinted. The "modern" yacht design book. A really good yacht design book with extensive and clear explaninations of concepts such as basic stablility. A very useful reference for ship design with many useful guidline equations. A good book giving insight into modern hydrodynamics, manoeuvring and seakeeping

Deeper Solid Modelling Reference Books
Exceptional book which introduces the basic concepts of solid modelling with surfaces. Introduces the Gregory Bezier patch but watch out for the typing mistakes in the maths. One of the original solid modelling books describing the basics using Euler operations. Doesn't use surfaces.
