Photo Blog - This Week... (01.08.07)

At last some time off from work and this year I finally got round to cycling the trails in South Wales spending two days in Afan Forest Park tackling the Penhydd and Skyline trails (at least up to the second short cut!). On the way back tackled the Twrch trail at Cwmcarn. Afan lived up to its expectations as being one of the 10 best places mountain bike in the world (What Mountain Bike Magazine - December 2004) even though I left the Wall and White's Level trails for next time. The climb on the Twrch was a bit frustrating for spent legs. Even so, tackled it twice as the final decent sections were really worth the initial investment in Gravity.

I didn't really want to take my camera on the shorter trails as their was good chance it was going to get damaged when the inevitable happened. But here are some photos from the Skyline trail which shares it accent with White's Level.

Half way up the accent, looking along the valley which approaches the the Glyncorrwg Mountain Biking Centre.

Some free electricity up here.

Some of the local life living in the woods.

Dark routes through the damp woods.

Riding along the top, somewhat a long way down now!

Even the massive Caterpillar trucks look like toys.

Amazing views up here of the Welsh hills, although the view from the top of the Twrch is even better.

Views over looking lakes.

Steep views...

The Skyline trail incorparates a lot of Forest roads. I have to say I prefered the shorter trails.

Spent two nights at Llanerch Vineyard near Llantrisant. It's very close to the M4 and half way between Afan and Cwmcarn.
